Cleaning to Tackle Before Moving Out of USC On-Campus Housing
Moving out of your apartment or house can be stressful–especially during exam week! USC housing, and off-campus housing landlords, have strict rules around how clean your dorm or apartment needs to be at the time of your move. Failure to follow their rules leads to charges, as seen in the following price list (which is specific to the University of Southern California):
Generally speaking, it needs to be as clean as it was when you moved in. To ensure that you and your roommates don’t get charged, here is a checklist for things to clean before your space is inspected:
Kitchen
Stove
Oven
Refrigerator (inside and out)
Microwave (inside and out)
Sink
Bedroom(s)
Wipe the inside of drawers
Wipe down any shelves
Bathroom(s)
Sink(s)
Toilet (don’t forget to clean the base and outside of the bowl!)
Tub and shower walls
Mirrors
All Rooms
Remove all posters, stickers, command strips, LED lights etc. from walls and clean off any residue
Collect and remove all trash (check inside drawers and behind furniture)
Spot treat any carpet stains
Vacuum and mop all floors
Wipe down all furniture
Wipe down all surfaces to remove dust and dirt
Dust baseboards
Other
Balcony – if applicable (remove trash and wipe down any furniture)
