When I see soap scum or mildew built up on the lower sides of a tub and around the drain, I almost always know the cause — HAIR!
When hair clogs your drain and you don’t remove it (either by yourself or by calling your housing maintenance team), water can’t drain fast enough. You might find yourself showering in a puddle when the water builds up.
When it does drains (slowly) the soap, shampoo, and everything else sticks to the sides of the tub and eventually starts growing bacteria, mildew, and mold. You may also see mold on your shower curtain!
Early stages of this might look like this:
But left untouched for long enough and you’ll be dealing with bigger cleaning problems, like this:
Luckily, there’s an easy fix: just clean out the hair from the drain! And then book an appointment with us to clean the tub for you. Otherwise, grab your least-favorite cleaning sponge and get to it 😉.
Long-term solutions include investing in a hair clog prevention tool, such as a DrainFunnel (use TIDYTROJANS for 10% off) or hair catcher to prevent hair from causing a slow-draining tub/shower. You could also manually remove the hair every so often if you're content with getting your hands dirty. Another great prevention tactic is to rinse the tub after every bath to remove any soap residue.
