1. Microfiber glass cloths. I’ve tried countless glass cleaners–Windex, Sprayway, and store brands–and none of them have provided me with 100% streak-free results. Luckily, I’ve found a better method for cleaning mirrors/glass that eliminates the need to have another chemical cleaner in your cleaning kit! I’ve been using these glass cleaning cloths for the past year and can’t recommend them enough. They work with just water and leave no streaks or lint.
2. Bar Keepers Friend. While Bar Keepers Friend has been expanding their product line to include stainless steel cleaner, coffee machine descalers, and MORE (no literally, they have a product called MORE), my favorite has always been their original formula. The original powdered cleanser (and the liquid soft cleanser) is my go-to for everything from stainless steel cookware to bathtubs.
It can be found on Amazon, but it’s cheaper at big box stores (Target, Walmart, Home Depot, etc.).
3. Home ceramic coating. This one is definitely not a necessity by any means, but it has become one of my favorite home care products. This long-lasting home ceramic coating seals and protects surfaces from light scratches, fingerprints, and grime build-up. I’ve applied it to almost everything in my home and have found that it allows me to go longer without cleaning fingerprints off my stainless steel fridge or water marks off my stainless steel sink. My other favorite surfaces to use it on are kitchen countertops (it’s also safe for marble) and chrome fixtures.
4. Dawn dish soap. It’s affordable, cuts grease like no other, and can be used for so much more than just dishes. Dawn has always been my go-to dishwashing liquid. It’s super concentrated–a single drop goes a long way–and doesn’t contain ammonia like many other brands (although you still shouldn’t mix it with bleach). Plus, their Dawn Powerwash product ROCKS. I’ve previously compiled some of my favorite uses for dish soap other than for washing dishes, here.
5. Scentiva disinfecting wipes. I’ve inhaled enough toxic fumes and fake scents from chemical disinfectants to know which ones give me a headache. Perhaps I’m alone on this one, but I find that fake lemon scent makes me nauseous–you all know the smell I’m talking about. I recently tried these Scentiva wipes and they have become my new favorite! They’re not expensive in comparison to other brands, the smell is not too overpowering or long-lasting, and they don’t make my head pound–all wins in my book!
