3 TV Shows About Cleaning to Add to your Watch List

If you’ve already watched our TikToks or Reels and can’t get enough, I’ve compiled a list of some cleaning-centered TV shows I’ve enjoyed recently. This list is in no way exhaustive, but these three shows are my favorites as they each portray different types of cleaning with a range of genres.

1. Maid

Where to watch: Netflix

Genre: drama

“Maid" follows the story of a single mother who turns to house cleaning as a way to make ends meet after leaving an abusive relationship with her child. It explores the challenges of being a working mother and the difficulties of breaking the cycle of poverty.

I watched this show right when it was released in October 2021. I remember thinking, I like cleaning, I could be a housekeeper. Little did I know that this thought would become a reality just a month later! “Maid” isn’t the sole reason, or even the main reason, why we started Tidy Trojans Cleaning Co. It just happened to be one thing that planted the seed in my brain and got me thinking about it! “Maid” still remains high on my list of favorite drama shows–and I’ve seen a lot of TV shows–so if you have some time, give it a watch!

2. The Cleaning Lady

Where to watch: HBO, Hulu

Genre: crime

”The Cleaning Lady” follows the story of an undocumented Cambodian doctor, Thony De La Rosa, who comes to the United States with hopes that the US medical system had the resources to save her ailing son. She turns to cleaning as a way to make money–but not the type of cleaning you would expect. Thony gets mixed in with the wrong crowd, and in an effort to earn the funds needed for her son's medical bills, she becomes a crime-scene cleaner. Cunning and intelligent, Thony forges her own path in the criminal underworld, doing whatever she has to for her family.

I first started watching this show on a six-hour flight and was immediately hooked! I only just found out that season two had been released on Hulu–unfortunately, the newest season isn’t on HBO yet!! I can’t wait for when they release it on HBO and I can continue binging it (if someone wants to share their HULU account details, email me ;))

3. Hoarders

Where to watch: Netflix (seasons 11 and 12 only), Hulu

Genre: reality show

"Hoarders" provides a look inside a disease that can bury its sufferer (literally) in its symptoms. Each episode profiles someone on the verge of a personal crisis, all caused by the fact that they are unable to part with even the tiniest possessions. These individuals are often in debt from making frequent compulsive purchases and need help to get their lives back in order.

I’m still making my way through this show–it’s actually playing in the background as I type this–but so far, so good! If you want an inside look into the lives and thought patterns of hoarders, this show is for you. Every time I watch an episode, I have the utmost respect for the cleaners and organizers who help sort and dispose of tons–no literally, TONS–of “treasures” and help the individuals feel at home in their spaces again.

Have you seen any of these already? Which one was your favorite? If you haven’t seen any of them, add them to your watch list!
